Nacogdoches Musician Launches Vinyl Record Manufacturing Business to Support Artists

With an extensive music background and passion for vinyl records, Juan Lopez turned his love of the art into a successful global vinyl manufacturing business. However, to get to this point, he needed funding to cover the startup costs of purchasing the equipment, leasing commercial space and outfitting the facility. 

SBDC Support and Resources 

To secure the necessary funding, Lopez identified an SBA loan as the best option for his circumstances, but realized he needed a solid business plan before submitting an application. That's when he turned to the Angelina College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for help. 

His SBDC Business Advisor, Cassandra Stokes, provided various resources to help develop his business plan, including templates, business webinars and industry and market research. She also provided additional information on SBA loans and SBA-backed lenders, as well as legal structures and relevant state licenses and permits that he would need.  

While Lopez worked on his business plan, Stokes continually provided guidance on alternative funding sources, identifying optimal locations, commercial insurance, equipment and vendors for his business needs. She also offered advice on navigating zoning requirements. 

Preparing to Launch

By May 2024, Lopez closed on an SBA 7(a) loan, which, along with his capital injection, enabled him to sign a commercial lease and cover the costs of renovations and ordering the state-of-the-art equipment needed to begin operations. Later that year, he successfully launched Montclaire Pressing with one full-time job and has since secured multiple revenue-generating contracts.

Today, the Angelina College SBDC continues to offer Lopez business support as needed.
