Eagle Five Stars Painting Expands to Texas with Support from Brazos Valley SBDC
When Kevin Rivera decided to expand his successful painting business from Chicago to Texas, he wasn't just opening a new location. He was building a foundation for long-term growth in a new market.
As owner of Eagle Five Stars Painting, Rivera saw opportunity in the Bryan-College Station area but knew expanding across state lines meant navigating unfamiliar regulations, tax requirements, and business planning. To ensure the transition was done correctly, he partnered with the Brazos Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
Working with SBDC advisor Shay Iacoponelli, Rivera received guidance throughout the expansion process. Together, they established a Texas limited liability company, completed the required state registrations, obtained a Texas employer identification number, and ensured the business met Texas tax and compliance requirements.
Beyond business formation, the Brazos Valley SBDC helped Rivera develop a roadmap for entering the local market. Assistance included business and marketing planning, recommendations for accounting and job management software, insurance guidance for painting contractors, industry market research, and best practices for financial recordkeeping. As the business prepared to grow, Rivera also received hiring resources and was connected with the SBDC's human resources specialist to support future workforce planning.
