Academy of Little Angels: A Dream of Care and Learning Takes Flight

When Diana Martinez, owner of Academy of Little Angels, first purchased two adjoining lots in Baytown, she envisioned creating more than just a daycare. She dreamed of building a safe, nurturing environment where children could learn, grow, and thrive.

“I wanted to offer the same love and care we give our own children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews,” Martinez said.

Turning that vision into reality, however, required guidance and resources. Martinez reached out to the Lee College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for help. With the SBDC’s support, she secured funding, developed a strong business plan, and transformed her property into a thriving childcare center.

Linda Jones-Zbranek, Former Director of the Lee College SBDC, worked closely with Martinez throughout her journey.

“Diana was deeply committed to the success of the Academy of Little Angels,” Jones-Zbranek said. “I had the privilege of working with her to secure a grant that expanded the daycare’s capacity by more than 50 percent, allowing her to meet the growing demand for quality childcare in the community.”

Today, Academy of Little Angels serves families with programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and before- and after-school care. The daycare has grown to employ 11 full-time staff members, creating jobs and expanding access to early childhood education.

With continued growth, Martinez is now preparing to open a second location in Highlands, Texas, extending her reach to even more families.
