Overview

When Jim Keeter, an experienced entrepreneur with a history of successful ventures, decided to acquire Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, TX, he faced a series of challenges. Although well-versed in business ownership, the purchase price raised concerns, prompting him to seek assistance from the Blinn College Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Keeter recognized the need for expert guidance in valuations, constructing a business plan, and securing the necessary financing for the acquisition.

In the spring of 2019, Jim Keeter approached the SBDC, initiating a partnership that would prove instrumental in overcoming unforeseen hurdles. The global pandemic introduced fluctuations in price valuations during negotiations, posing additional challenges. The SBDC stepped in to help Keeter navigate these complexities, providing a comprehensive suite of services. This included analyzing and valuing the opportunity, guiding through the acquisition and negotiation process, creating meticulous financial projections and a robust business plan, and assembling a complete loan package for multiple lenders. With careful consideration, Keeter selected the most favorable loan offer.

Keeter, now a proud owner, was delighted to have family members actively involved in the Antique Rose Emporium and made sure to hire all the former employees.

To celebrate this achievement, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on March 9, 2023. Notably, Jim Keeter's business advisor, John Tatum, joined the festivities to extend congratulations and share in the joyous moment. This event not only marked the official introduction of Antique Rose Emporium to the community but also symbolized the resilience and collaborative spirit that defined its path to success.

“The support and expertise provided by the Blinn College SBDC were instrumental in turning my vision for Antique Rose Emporium into a reality,” said Keeter. “The challenges were substantial, especially with the uncertainties brought on by the pandemic. The SBDC not only helped navigate these challenges but also played a pivotal role in securing the right financing and structuring a solid business plan. The tangible outcomes of this collaboration speak volumes. Jim Keeter secured an SBA 7a loan from a nearby bank, enabling the purchase of Antique Rose Emporium's assets. The establishment of the new business entity marked the official start of a promising venture. This success translated into the creation of 22 full-time and 4 part-time jobs, injecting vitality into the local economy. The infusion of $2,460,000 in new capital further solidified the business's foundation.

The partnership between Jim Keeter and the Blinn College SBDC did not end with the acquisition.
