Every good employee handbook documents employee performance – good performance and not so good performance.  It’s essential for you and your employees to know what is and isn’t allowed and the consequences if polices are violated.  In this session our legal experts will explain a step-by-step process for legally documenting what constitutes employee misconduct, discipline procedures, and employee termination.

This session includes information on:
  • Drafting a misconduct/discipline policy that is legal and enforceable for your employee handbook
  • drafting a disciplinary notice for an employee
  • Employee disciplinary meetings - ho should be in the room and who signs the documentation
  • Employee termination meetings - what not to say and other facts to consider when terminating an employee
  • Employee probation - pros and cons
  • Disciplining an employee (from an oral policy in Texas)
  • The legal importance of documentation
  • Using your documentation to defend against unemployment claims
  • Using your documentation to defend against Title VII discrimination lawsuits
  • Legally acceptable grounds for termination
  • Employer rights and responsibilities in terminating an employee

Target Audience: This class is geared to business owners with at least one employee or about to hire their first employee.  It will also be helpful for businesses in the process of updating their employee handbook.
